There has been a library in the Cistercian Monastery at Vyšší Brod since its very beginning. A library has always been a natural part of monastic life. Our library has, in the course of centuries, grown to a considerable extent, and there are now two libraries in the monastery:

The historical library, with over 70,000 books, manuscripts and incunabula. This library contains those books that were acquired until the mid 20^th century. The library is used for scientific purposes and is shown, owing to its extraordinary beauty, to tourists on guided tours of the monastery.
The modern library in the enclosure, which contains new religious literature. At present, a catalogue of this library is being compiled, which is to be available on this website.
